Dr. Mario Alberto Valadez

Dr. Mario Alberto Valadez has been treating patients with Arthritic hand, knee and foot pain in the Matamoros area for the last 18 years. Dr. Valadez attended medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey and he completed his residency in internal medicine as well as his sub-specialization in Rheumatology at the Hospital Universitario in Monterrey. Dr. Valadez is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology/Clinical Immunology. He has seventeen years of institutional experience as chief of Internal Medicine and attending Rheumatologist at the ISSTE. Dr. Valadez is an active member of the Colegio Mexicano de Reumatologia and regularly attends International Medical Conferences such as the American College of Rheumatologist's annual scientific meetings. Dr. Valadez participated in Phase IV clinical trials for Humira, a treatment for arthritis manufactured by Abbott Laboratories and he is up-to-date on the most innovative diagnostic exams and bio-tech products available for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis.

Dr. Arturo Lira is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has been practicing general internal medicine and critical care medicine in the Matamoros area for 19 years. He completed his medical degree at the UAT in Matamoros and his residency in internal medicine at the Hospital Metropolitano in Monterrey, NL. Dr. Lira has served as chief of the Emergency Room at the Hospital General, Department Head of Internal Medicine at both the IMSS and ISSTE, Medical Director of the IMSS and Secretary of Academia at UAT School of Medicine. Dr. Lira has worked in the Intensive Care unit of the IMSS for the past 10 years.In addition to diagnostic evaluations and disease state management, Dr. Lira is interested in preventative care and executive wellness programs. He has added qualifications in the treatment of Metabolic Syndrome (Syndrome X) which is a common cluster of conditions characterized by having any three of the following: high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides and/or being overweight.

 

In their spare time Dr. Lira, his wife and their two sons enjoy camping, fishing and motorcycling.

Dr. Ruben Sauceda Lumbreras

Dr. Sauceda is Board Certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease medicine and has specialized in the care of critically ill patients in the intensive care setting over the past 16 years. He also has a special interest in the outpatient management of cough, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Dr. Sauceda attended medical school at the UAT in Matamoros and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital General in Victoria. He specialized in Pulmonary Care medicine at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias in Mexico City. Dr. Sauceda has expertise in the management of complex airway problems and regularly performs respiratory function tests in an ambulatory setting. Dr. Sauceda has added qualifications in palliative care. His goal for terminally-ill patients is to enable them to continue an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity and quality, surrounded by their loved ones. Dr. Sauceda is an associate professor at the UAT School of Medicine, is an active member of the Sociedad Mexicana de Pulmonologia y Cirugia de Torax, is involved in clinical research for new asthma medications, has several publications in pulmonology journals and has been involved in creating National Guidelines for the treatment of COPD and Pneumonia. Dr. Sauceda enjoys reading literature and writing and reciting poetry.

Dr. Rafael Real

Dr. Rafael Real, founder of the Diabetes Clinic at Hospital General Pumarejo has served the needs of thyroid and endocrine patients in the Matamoros area for over 20 years. Dr. Real attended medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine as well as his subspecialty in Endocrinology at the Hospital Universitario in Monterrey. Additionally, Dr. Real completed a year long rotation in Lipidology with internationally recognized diabetes and atherosclerosis expert, Dr. George Steiner at Toronto General Hospital in Canada. Dr. Real is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, serves on teaching faculty at Tec de Monterrey Medical School in Nuevo Leon and is involved in Phase 4 and post-marketing surveillance research for several pharmaceutical manufacturers. He has published several articles in prestigious Mexican endocrinology journals such as El PAC and wrote a chapter on pituitary gland changes during pregnancy for a Molecular Biology textbook which is utilized nationally within medical schools. His focus is the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, thyroid disorders, general hormone imbalances, metabolic syndrome and obesity. Dr. Real is very knowledgeable on the latest pharmaceutical innovations available to treat diabetes and participates in several advisory boards and speaking bureaus for Glaxo, Roche, Eli Lilly, Merck and Novo.

Dr. Ruben Garcia

Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Ruben Garcia has been in private practice in the Matamoros for over 9 years. He completed medical school at the UAT in Matamoros and his residency in Internal Medicine at Hospital Pumarejo. During his residency he completed 2 rotations in cardiology, one at Hospital Universitario in Monterrey and a second at Hospital Juarez in Mexico City. Dr. Garcia treats adult patients with diabetes, hypertension and metabolic syndrome. His primary focus is directing the clinical examinations and tests to make an accurate diagnosis (identifying the cause of the problem) and then discussing the recommended treatment plans at length with his patients. Dr. Garcia performs ambulatory 24 hour holter electrocardiograms to diagnose heart arrythmias and sleep apnea. He also performs pre-surgical work-ups to assess and help manage risks associated with surgery. Dr. Garcia has significant critical care and emergency medicine experience, is ACLS certified (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and is on staff at Centro Medico Internacional Emergency Department.
