Dr. Rene Perea Cosio is a board certified general surgeon that has been in private practice for 19 years. He attended medical school at the UAT School of Medicine in Matamoros and completed his residency in general surgery and fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Centro Medico Nacional Siglo XXI in Mexico City. Dr. Perea is an expert in all aspects of laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery for cancer, polyps, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis and other colon and rectal disorders.He has significant institutional experience as an emergency room surgeon for the ISSTE and is currently chief of surgery for the Hospital Pumarejo. Additionally, Dr. Perea teaches surgical technique to medical students at the UAT School of Medicine and trains surgical residents at the Hospital General. Over the past decade, Dr. Perea has developed a special interest in performing minimally invasive bariatric procedures such as the LAP BAND and the GASTRIC SLEEVE. He teaches courses and has lectured nationally on minimally invasive surgical techniques and restrictive bariatric procedures.
Dr. Carlos de la Garza is a board certified general surgeon that has been in private practice for 16 years. He attended medical school at the UAT School of Medicine in Matamoros and completed his residency in general surgery at the Hospital #25, Centro Medico Noreste in Monterrey. Dr. de la Garza completed additional training in advanced endoscopy/intestinal motility at the Hospital Clinique in Barcelona, Spain and research fellowship training in colon and rectal physiology at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston Florida under the tutiledge of Dr. Steven Wexner. He has served as an emergency room surgeon, chief of surgery, chief of digestive endoscopy and currently serves as the medical sub-director for the Hospital Pumarejo. Dr. de la Garza has taught surgical technique at the UAT School of Medicine for the last 5 years and has been training residents at the Hospital General over a decade. Dr. de la Garza's Gastrointestinal Motility Laboratory offers upper GI endoscopy, esophageal manometry testing, 24 hour Impedance PH testing, and anorectal sphincter function testing for incontinence and chronic constipation.

Dr. Maria Elena Aguilar, a board certified surgeon and gastroenterologist, has been serving patients with gastrointestinal disorders in the Matamoros area for over 10 years. She attended medical school and completed her surgical residency at the UAT School of Medicine/ Hospital Pumarejo in Matamoros and completed her sub-specialty in Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy at the Hospital Manuel Gea Gonzalez in Mexico City, which is recognized as one of the top GI Centers in Latin America. Most of Dr. Aguilar's practice is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders such as: GI reflux, gastric ulcers, lower GI bleeding, intestinal inflammation, gastritis and colitis. She also treats disorders of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder and colon. Many of the endoscopic procedures available do not require surgery. Dr. Aguilar is an active member of the Asociacion Mexicana de Endoscopia Gastrointestinal.
